End of semester greetings

April 30, 2026

UMD students, faculty, and staff,

It’s hard to believe that we are closing out classes for this spring semester. This year has gone so quickly. I wanted to share this video message to help commemorate the end of the academic year:

To our graduating class, we are so proud of you, your determination, and your hard work. Congratulations and thank you for your valuable contributions to UMD and our campus community. Please stay engaged and know that you’re always welcome back on campus.

I hope you are all able to join us at commencement next Saturday, May 9, at AMSOIL Arena. It’s going to be an exciting day as we celebrate nearly 2000 graduates with 12,000 guests.

I also hope to see campus community members at next week’s campus Strategic Pathway event. We’ll be sharing and celebrating our updated mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities in the Kirby Ballroom on Monday, May 4 from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. Thank you for participating in the many campus conversations, surveys, and engagement opportunities that have helped inform this important chapter in our institution’s history. Over the summer, we will work through internal approval processes with a final launch planned for the fall.

I want to take this opportunity to recognize our colleagues who celebrated milestone years of service this year, and those who were awarded University of Minnesota faculty and staff awards. Thank you for everything that you do for our students, for this campus and our community.

Thanks again for a great year. It’s my hope that you enjoy a restful and restorative summer.
